The Acousticel R10 resilient system of floating floors combined with our SBM5 sound barrier mat and QuietBoard, high density tongued and grooved acoustic flooring has now been specified and supplied for a school in Worcestershire. The Acousticel R10 system of complying with the Part E Building Regulations for the Resistance to the Passage of Sound was the preferred option of noise control due to its recycled properties and acoustic efficiency. R10 is produced from recycled vehicle tyres and SBM5 from recycled PVC’s and mineral fillers. QuietBoard is produced using sawdust, a by-product from the wood processing industry and cement creating a heavy, strong, acoustically efficient floor. When used on timber suspended floors as the base floor screwed to the top of the joists, with 2mm of SBM5 and 10mm of resilient R10 with Quietboard as the floating floor and with 100mm of AMW type Acoustic Mineral Wool between the joists and a decoupled acoustically upgraded ceiling below the following independently tested results were obtained.
DnT,w 50dB including Ctr for airborne noise and a maximum of L’nT,w 55dB for impact noise.
The Approved Document E states that any separating floor the subject of a change of use must meet the following test results.
A minimum of 43dB for airborne noise and a maximum of 64dB for impact noise.
This is why the Acousticel R10 system was specified for use in this school because of the superior performance of the system and the high standards of noise control required by the school.
